Each fall, attending the whirlwind that is  High Point Market brings a fresh wave of inspiration, and 2026 is no exception. High Point Market in High Point, North Carolina, is the largest furnishings trade show in the world, and there’s always more to see than seems humanly possible, a mission I gladly accept.

Walking the floor, I cover as many showrooms as possible, testing the furniture, taking pictures of the installations, and meeting new furnishing contacts so I can bring my clients back the very best of what’s new.

I’m also on the hunt for emerging trends that shape the interior design industry and smart innovations to challenges my clients face.

This year, the interior design trends on show were rooted in quiet confidence, organic warmth, and expressive personality, all wrapped in the elegance and functionality that define luxury interior design. But more than just fleeting statements, these trends echo a deeper desire: to create homes that feel uniquely lived-in and deeply personal.

In this blog, we’ll explore the 2026 design trends of High Point Market that I can’t stop thinking about and how they’re redefining timeless design most stylishly.

Neutrals with Pops of Muted Color

Soft, grounding neutrals remain a staple in timeless design, but in 2026, they’re getting a quiet upgrade: muted color accents. Think sage green pillows against a creamy linen sofa, a dusty rose velvet chair nestled in a sand-toned bedroom, or a stormy blue island in an otherwise warm, taupe-toned kitchen.

These accent shades aren’t loud. They whisper. They offer personality without overpowering the room, making them ideal for those who love subtlety with style. The beauty of this trend is its flexibility. You can apply it in a guest bathroom with soft peach towels and art, or in a dining room with muted olive chairs around a classic wood table. It’s the perfect example of luxury interior design that doesn’t shout but speaks volumes.

Even in a monochrome space, just a touch of dusty lavender in a vase or a pale mustard throw can add just the right amount of depth and visual interest. These muted accents are often best introduced through textiles, artwork, or accessories, allowing for seasonal or mood-based changes without requiring a full redesign. It also encourages homeowners to explore color in ways that feel low risk, making it more accessible to those drawn to calm, cohesive interiors.

The underlying message of this trend is restraint. It invites you to create impact without clutter, and color without chaos. With the right balance, muted hues layered on a neutral foundation can create a room that feels fresh, yet enduring.

Swag Lighting That Shimmers Like Jewelry

Lighting has long been an essential element of interior design, but in 2026, it’s becoming an opportunity for even more self-expression. This year, swag lighting fixtures are having a moment, and they’re channeling the allure of fine jewelry. With forms reminiscent of cascading necklaces or beaded earrings, these lights are no longer just functional, but also foundational to the room’s aesthetic.

Think of elongated glass pendants dripping with detail, or polished metal arms twisted into artistic shapes. Fixtures in brushed brass, antique gold, and smoky bronze offer a sense of age and opulence, while crystals and tinted glass lend elegance and softness.

One of the most impactful placements for these lighting pieces is above a dining table, where their presence can command attention and set the tone for the entire space. In a foyer or stairwell, a swag chandelier becomes a sculptural centerpiece. Even in bedrooms, layered lighting with a jewelry-like chandelier adds romance and refinement.

The appeal of this trend lies in its ability to elevate a space with minimal effort. A simple, well-designed room can be utterly transformed by a light fixture that doubles as art. For those hesitant to embrace bold colors or large furniture pieces, lighting offers a perfect outlet to experiment with scale, shape, and style.

Wood Splicing and Root Wood

Natural wood has always been integral to design, but 2026 sees a deeper appreciation for its raw, organic forms and complementary textiles. Wood splicing and root wood are stepping into the spotlight, offering visually striking alternatives to traditional smooth, flat wood finishes. These materials celebrate imperfection, irregularity, and the hand of the maker.

Wood splicing involves joining different wood grains or tones together in intricate patterns. The result is a dynamic surface that feels crafted and bespoke. Often used in cabinetry, tabletops, and wall paneling, spliced wood draws the eye and invites closer inspection.

Root wood, which is exactly what it sounds like (the root base of a tree), adds incredible texture and form to furniture. Because each root system is unique, every piece created from it becomes a one-of-a-kind element. Coffee tables, side tables, and sculptural stools made from root wood can act as conversation pieces while grounding a space in nature.

These materials align with the larger trend of honoring nature’s artistry, embracing what’s real, irregular, and rich in character. They also reflect the values of sustainability and craftsmanship, both of which continue to shape the direction of luxury interior design.

Velvet: Soft, Stylish, and Sophisticated

Velvet is having a powerful resurgence in next year’s design trends, and for good reason. It’s tactile, timeless, and effortlessly luxurious. This year, velvet is not just an accent, but it’s being embraced on a larger scale, with full sofas, headboards, and drapery cloaked in this rich fabric.

What makes velvet so compelling is its ability to play with light. The way it subtly shifts in color and sheen throughout the day gives any piece a multidimensional look. This creates depth and drama without relying on bold patterns or prints.

The palette for velvet in these 2026 design trends leans toward earthy sophistication: rust, saffron, deep merlot, ink blue, and moss green. These tones anchor a room while adding softness. A deep ochre velvet bench in an entryway, a pair of rust-colored dining chairs, or a moss green ottoman can completely transform a space with minimal additions.

Velvet also complements a wide range of styles. In modern interiors, a sleek velvet chair adds a plush contrast. In more traditional rooms, it reinforces elegance. It even finds a home in coastal-inspired spaces when paired with natural materials and light-washed woods.

Ultimately, velvet brings a sensory richness that speaks directly to luxury. It invites touch, adds visual warmth, and delivers timeless design with contemporary flair.

Statement Sofas

Gone are the days of playing it safe with a beige sectional. In 2026, the sofa is the star. Statement sofas are a defining element of current design trends, and they bring with them a boldness and creativity that demands attention.

This trend celebrates uniqueness through shape, color, and material. Think asymmetrical silhouettes, rounded edges, or low profiles. Fabric choices range from plush velvets and rich leathers to tactile boucle and linen blends.

Color also plays a key role. Jewel tones like sapphire, emerald, and amethyst are on the rise, as well as earthy shades like clay and terracotta. Even soft pastels, when used in an oversized, sculptural form, take on a confident edge.

A statement sofa can function as a standalone sculpture in an otherwise restrained room or become the grounding centerpiece in a richly layered space. It reflects a homeowner’s willingness to embrace individuality, which is a key principle in luxury interior design.

To keep the look cohesive, balance bold sofa choices with understated textiles and accessories. A professional interior designer can help guide scale, proportion, and palette so that the piece enhances rather than overwhelms the space.

The Power of Green in Every Shade

Green has evolved from a trendy accent to a cornerstone of modern interiors. In 2026, green is everywhere and in every shade. It speaks to a collective yearning for calm, connection to nature, and effortless sophistication.

The versatility of green is what makes it so appealing. Lighter tones like sage, eucalyptus, and pistachio lend a sense of serenity. They’re perfect for bedrooms, bathrooms, or spaces designed for relaxation. Deeper shades like forest, pine, and emerald add drama and depth, ideal for libraries, studies, or dining rooms.

Green cabinetry can be used in kitchens, offering an unexpected alternative to the all-white standard. Tilework, wallpaper, and soft furnishings in various greens help layer a room with subtle richness. When paired with natural wood, brass, or stone, green feels fresh yet grounded.

Designers love green for its ability to harmonize with nearly any style from traditional to contemporary. It’s a color that looks current today and timeless tomorrow, making it a smart investment for any homeowner.

Warm Champagne and Alabaster Lighting

Lighting has always been a vital layer in interior design, and in 2026, the shift toward warm, ambient illumination continues to shape how we experience our homes. Champagne-toned and alabaster lighting are leading the charge, adding a soft glow that enhances mood and elevates every corner.

Champagne finishes are more refined than brass and warmer than nickel, giving them a quietly luxurious feel. They work beautifully in any room, from pendant lighting in a kitchen to wall sconces in a hallway. The warmth of the metal complements a wide range of materials, from marble and concrete to wood and leather.

Alabaster brings its own unique charm. Its subtle veining and soft translucence create a diffused, atmospheric glow. Used in table lamps or even chandeliers, alabaster lighting blends sculptural appeal with functional elegance.

These lighting choices aren’t about brightness, they’re about ambiance. They support the shift away from harsh overhead lighting toward layered, thoughtful illumination that enhances how a space feels. That makes them an essential ingredient in both luxury and timeless design.

Use Trends, But Don’t Be Ruled by Them

As exciting as design trends can be, they should serve as inspiration, not instruction. The heart of luxury interior design isn’t about keeping up. It’s about curating a space that honors your lifestyle, reflects your personality, and stands the test of time.

A design trend at High Point Market might spark an idea. Perhaps you’ll fall in love with velvet, or consider a bold statement sofa for the first time. But the magic happens when those ideas are filtered through your own aesthetic lens. When trends are thoughtfully adapted, not blindly followed, they become stepping stones toward something deeply personal and enduring.

Working with a professional interior designer, like myself, can help you navigate these options with clarity and confidence. I have an eye that ensures every detail, from lighting temperature to wood grain, contributes to a cohesive, elevated vision. And most importantly, I’ll help you discover what truly resonates with you.

So as you explore the design trends of 2026, take what speaks to you and leave the rest. Trust your instincts, stay curious, and let your home evolve with intention. Because the most beautiful spaces aren’t just well-designed. They’re unmistakably yours.
