Behind every effortlessly beautiful, personalized home is a team working tirelessly to make sure no detail is overlooked. For a full service interior designer like Jessica Woodward, Principal Designer and Owner of Welcome Home Styling, no two days are alike.

Regardless of the tasks at hand, every day is anchored in precision, creativity, and the kind of thoughtful planning that transforms spaces. At Welcome Home Styling, our role as a full service interior design firm is to serve as both guide and collaborator for our clients, walking them through each step of our full service residential design process with care.

While each day might look a little different depending on the project and phase, we want to take you through what a typical day may look like for our team, focusing on one of the most important elements of our design process: the design presentation. This pivotal part in the process is where concept becomes reality and the vision meets execution.

Starting the Day with Intention

Since full service interior design often involves managing multiple ongoing projects, mornings are about setting priorities. Design presentations, site visits, sourcing trips, and client meetings are all part of a rotating schedule. When preparing for a design presentation, the calendar is built around one goal: curating an experience that helps clients clearly envision their future space.

Each day typically begins with a review of ongoing project milestones and team check-ins to align on the day’s priorities. Since every project is in a different phase, it takes a sharp sense of organization to keep things flowing smoothly and ensure every client receives the same level of personalized communication and attention. Some days may be reserved for design development, phone calls with vendors, and reviewing samples. Other days might be dedicated to working in the field, meeting with contractors to confirm details, or putting final details on client spaces.

There is a rhythm to every day. A steady cadence driven by both creative inspiration and precise project coordination. This intentional structure ensures we honor our clients’ timelines and expectations while leaving room for inspiration to flourish.

From Consultation to Concept

Our full service residential design process begins long before the design presentation. When a client books a consultation, we sit down to understand their lifestyle, preferences, goals, and the existing layout of their home. This initial step is all about building trust, and it’s where we gather critical information that will shape the project.

The consultation phase sets the tone for everything that follows. We ask in-depth questions about how clients live, entertain, and relax. This is where we gain a full understanding of what clients want and need out of their space.

After the consultation, we transition into the Concept and Design Phase. This begins with Measurement Day, when our team visits the client’s home to take detailed dimensions of every relevant room. Accurate measurements are essential to ensure that the design plans we create are functional, proportionate, and aligned with the client’s goals.

We measure walls, windows, doors, ceiling heights, existing furnishings, architectural features, and more. It’s meticulous, but necessary. These numbers become the blueprint for the virtual concept presentation.

Once all the measurements are captured, our design team gets to work creating a concept presentation. This includes mood boards, general inspiration, and a preliminary floor plan that confirms ideal furniture layout and flow. These early visuals act as a map for the project and help our clients get a feel for the tone, style, and direction of the space.

We carefully present digital mood boards with curated inspiration images that represent the proposed aesthetic, whether that’s warm and coastal, sleek and modern, or richly traditional. The goal is alignment. Before we move forward, we want our clients to feel confident in the vision.

A Critical Step: The Design Presentation

Preparing for the Design Presentation

After the concept is approved and furniture layouts are confirmed, we officially enter the Design Phase. This is where the real magic happens, and where a full service interior designer truly shines. It’s also the phase that demands the most creativity, organization, and attention to detail.

Design presentations are the highlight of the process. Preparing for one involves careful product sourcing, palette refinement, and logistical planning. Every material, swatch, finish, and furnishing is selected with intention. Our team sources pieces based on the approved concept, ensuring the final design is unique and tailored to each client.

During this phase, we take into account:

  • Color harmony across rooms
  • Scale and proportion of every item
  • Client lifestyle and practical needs
  • Flow and sightlines within each space
  • Cohesion with the home’s architectural style

One of the benefits of working with a full service interior design firm like Welcome Home Styling is access to our sourcing expertise and our trusted vendors. We select furniture and materials that you may be able to find yourself, but we bring a more curated attention to detail and existing relationships with our vendors that make the process more successful. We select pieces, ensuring the final result feels both custom and elevated. We also pay attention to lead times, product availability, and material durability.

A lot of behind-the-scenes coordination goes into this phase:

  • Sourcing fabrics, wallpapers, lighting, furniture, and decor items
  • Ordering samples and swatches for physical review
  • Coordinating with vendors to confirm availability and lead times
  • Creating detailed visual presentations, including 2D renderings
  • Creating floor plans, elevations, and material specs
  • Mocking up design boards and assembling presentation kits

During the preparation for the Design Presentation, you’ll find our team assembling color palettes, comparing wood finishes under different lighting, or calling vendors to track down a very specific brass finish. It’s all part of the process.

The Design Presentation Day Experience

When design presentation day arrives, it’s all hands on deck. The team arrives early to set up at our designated meeting space with material boards, swatches, renderings, and reference samples. Presentation kits are meticulously organized to help walk the client through each room in sequence, ensuring nothing is overlooked.

A full service interior designer acts as both a storyteller and a strategist here. During the presentation, we walk our clients through the vision for each space:

  • Floor plans and layout explanations
  • Mood boards showing aesthetic inspiration for the space
  • Real samples of upholstery, rugs, wood finishes, and paint colors
  • Sourced furnishings and lighting details
  • Material samples for tile, cabinetry, and hardware
  • 2D renderings and elevations showing what the space may look like

Clients can feel textures, compare colors in natural light, and ask questions about why each item was chosen. This tactile, immersive experience is part of what makes full service interior design so impactful. It’s more than a visual pitch, it’s a full sensory experience.

For some key elements, we’ll feature a couple of options for the client to choose from. This level of preparation is what allows us to remain nimble and responsive to client feedback.

Offering Room for Revisions

The design presentation is a dialogue. We encourage clients to be honest about what they love, what they’re unsure about, and what they may want to change. To support this, we include two rounds of revisions in our process.

Revisions might involve adjusting a rug size, swapping a fabric, or exploring a different lighting fixture. These refinements ensure that the final design is not only visually compelling but deeply personal. It also allows clients to feel involved in the process without feeling overwhelmed by endless choices.

This collaborative approach builds trust and helps us deliver spaces that are not only beautiful but emotionally resonant.

What Sets a Full Service Interior Designer Apart

One of the most defining characteristics of a full service interior designer is the ability to provide an end-to-end experience. We handle every detail so our clients don’t have to.

From managing timelines and coordinating contractors to ordering furniture and overseeing installation, we are the constant thread that holds the project together. This level of involvement creates continuity and ensures that the design presented is the design installed.

A full service interior design firm like Welcome Home Styling is more than just a design partner. We are project managers, stylists, visionaries, and logistical coordinators. Our clients trust us to take their vision and turn it into a functional, elevated, and cohesive reality.

We often act as the liaison between our clients and the rest of their project team—builders, contractors, electricians, or technicians. We look through construction plans, flag issues before they become problems, and suggest design-forward solutions that improve both form and function.

After the Presentation: Bringing the Vision to Life

Once the design is approved and any requested revisions are complete, we move into procurement. This phase includes:

  • Ordering all furnishings, lighting, and materials
  • Tracking shipments and managing vendor communications
  • Scheduling delivery windows and coordinating white-glove service
  • Preparing for any custom installations or contractor work

This part of the day often involves phone calls with vendors, checking in on lead times, updating clients, and aligning schedules across multiple teams. Our studio is filled with samples, spec sheets, and checklists. It’s all organized chaos that leads to a perfectly styled home.

We also work closely with contractors and tradespeople to ensure each design is executed exactly as envisioned. If something arrives damaged or needs adjustment, we manage that as well. Our role as a full service interior design firm is to remove stress from our clients’ plates and offer a seamless experience.

The Personal Touch

What truly makes a full service interior designer stand out is the level of personalization. At Welcome Home Styling, we pride ourselves on knowing our clients well. Everything from their families, their routines, and even the way they like to entertain. That intimate knowledge informs our design decisions and helps us create spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful.

Throughout each day, communication is key. We stay in regular contact with clients via email, phone, and scheduled check-ins. Updates are clear and consistent, and our clients always know where they are in the process. We view our clients as collaborators and work diligently to keep them involved, informed, and inspired.

This personal attention also extends to the little things: hand-selecting accessories that reflect a client’s travels, designing a custom bench for a reading nook, or curating a gallery wall that includes both family photos and fine art. Every detail matters.

We even go beyond the final install to ensure our clients are happy. We offer styling services, seasonal refreshes, and check-ins to fine-tune the space after they’ve lived in it for a while.
